EVERYONE IS A CO-CONSPIRATOR IN THE DOWNFALL OF TRUMPENFUHRER
The Washington Post reports, “President Trump suggested Thursday that the FBI may have had a hand in creating an intelligence dossier that alleged ties between Russia and Trump’s presidential campaign.” He is more paranoid than Nixon, more delusional than Hitler, just as bloodthirsty and delighting in violence as any aspiring mass murderer. Twitler wrote on his favorite antisocial network, “Workers of firm involved with the discredited and Fake Dossier take the 5th. Who paid for it, Russia, the FBI or the Dems (or all)?” So in other words he is sweating, which is ironically enough also a form of torture the Soviets exported around the world, according to Darius Rejalli. Vox calls the tweet “creepily authoritarian,” in a headline. Just as Trump’s allegations Obama wiretapped Trump Tower proved to be specious, because Trump is a delusional liar.
GOLD STAR FAILS
TRUMPISTAN WATCH has tried to ignore the front room reality show, but now it has pretty much engulfed civil-military relations, so here goes! The Hill synopsizes the distraction of the week: “President Trump found himself in a growing maelstrom Wednesday as military families came forward to criticize how he treated them after their relatives were killed in action. Trump lit the spark on the dispute on Monday when he claimed, incorrectly, that President Obama had not made calls to Gold Star families. Since then, that spark has become a raging blaze consuming everything else on the political stage.” The Hill adds, “The Washington Post interviewed the father of an army sergeant killed in Afghanistan who said Trump had promised to write him a $25,000 check from his personal account, but had not followed through. The White House said a check had been sent and criticized the media.” Then, “The wife of an army sergeant also killed in Afghanistan told CNN that she had been told to wait by her phone for a call from the president. The call never came, she said. The Post reported that it had made contact with 13 Gold Star families. Trump had called about half of them,” The Hill adds. Of course, “The growing storm came at the end of a day that began with the president defending himself against the charge that he had insulted the family of a Green Beret killed in Niger,” Sgt. La David Johnson. According to Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida, “Trump told Johnson’s grieving widow that her late husband ‘must’ve known what he signed up for … but when it happens it hurts anyway.’ Wilson also told MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ that Johnson’s widow, Myeshia Johnson, felt that Trump had not even been able to recall her late husband’s name.” Remember: the yellow cake for Saddam Hussein started but was not in Niger. In the most bizarre twist, POLITICO reports (with video) General Kelly, Trump’s Chief of Staff, went to bat on national television for him and attacked Congresswoman Wilson for listening in on a call Kelly referred to as “sacred,” as if Trump is capable of doing anything “sacred”. Who saves the country now from the generals? With McMaster and Kelly rolling in it, look to Mattis and Dunford?
TRUMP PERSONALLY INTERVIEWED US ATTORNEY CANDIDATES IN NY
POLITICO reports, “President Donald Trump has personally interviewed at least two potential candidates for U.S. attorney positions in New York,” which is of course “a move that critics say raises questions about whether they can be sufficiently independent from the president.” No kidding. According to POLITICO, “Trump has interviewed Geoffrey Berman, who is currently at the law firm Greenberg Traurig for the job of U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, and Ed McNally of the firm Kasowitz Benson Torres for the Eastern District post”. POLITICO notes, “The Southern District of New York is an especially notable position since it has jurisdiction over Trump Tower.” What happened to “law and order”? Oh right, it does not apply to Trump and his trash klan and fellow Trumpistani elites, who imagine themselves to be above it all. How perfectly Soviet.
REMEMBER W. WAS SILENT FOR EIGHT YEARS OF OBAMA
The Washington Post reports, “Former president George W. Bush on Thursday delivered a rare public speech, in which he warned of threats to American democracy and a decay of civic engagement, a message that was interpreted as a rebuke of President Trump’s divisive leadership style. At a New York forum sponsored by his presidential center, Bush offered a blunt assessment of a political system corrupted by ‘conspiracy theories and outright fabrication’ in which nationalism has been ‘distorted into nativism.’” That is right; the world is doing so many backflips at the moment that W. is emerging as a voice of a nation’s moral conscience, only, like, for real. The New York Times notes, Bush said, “We’ve seen our discourse degraded by casual cruelty,” adding, “Bullying and prejudice in our public life sets a national tone and provides permission for cruelty and bigotry. The only way to pass along civic values is to first live up to them.” The Washington Post adds, “Just hours after Bush completed his speech, Obama also made a veiled critique of the Trump era, calling on Democrats at a New Jersey campaign event to ‘send a message to the world that we are rejecting a politics of division, we are rejecting a politics of fear.’” The Washington Post writes, “It’s not just the former presidents. Two days ago, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), while receiving the National Constitution Center’s Liberty Medal, lambasted ‘half-baked, spurious nationalism’ and suggested the United States was abandoning its leadership role, an approach the Vietnam War veteran and former prisoner of war called ‘unpatriotic.’” There is momentum building toward something, but what is it? As a Soviet radio presenter said, “No one can predict the future, but the past is changing before our very eyes.”

CIA DIRECTOR MIKE POMPEO SHILLS FOR TRUMP ON RUSSIAN MEDDLING
POLITICO reports, “CIA Director Mike Pompeo drew sharp criticism Thursday after wrongly stating that the U.S. intelligence community had found that Russian meddling did not tilt the 2016 presidential election.” Great, so the CIA Director is a shill too. We are not really an entirely sovereign country at the moment. This is most certainly not a free society if there is no ideological independence to be found at the head of the CIA, one of the few reliable corridors for pushing back on Trump’s insane bullshit mischaracterizations of the investigation into Russian election hacking and interference. POLITICO notes, “Pompeo made the inaccurate claim at an event hosted by the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, a conservative think tank close to the Trump administration. His comments come amid growing evidence of Russian interference in last year’s campaign, the scale of which remains unclear.” The host organization is reliably nutty, having promoted some of the more false neocon ramblings of the Iraq War. Of course, “The intelligence community has made no such assessment,” POLITICO notes. That would make what CIA Director Mike Pompeo said lies. This is dangerous territory, or more accurately, beyond dangerous. Notably so because CNN reports Pompeo’s falsehood “was quickly clarified by his own agency.” Oops. CNN adds, “‘The intelligence assessment with regard to Russian election meddling has not changed, and the director did not intend to suggest that it had,’ agency spokesman Dean Boyd said.”
LITTLE MAN HAS BIG TANTRUM: RESPECT MY PUPPET
Reuters reports, “Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday President Donald Trump should be respected because he has a democratic mandate.” (Erupts in hilarious fit of laughter.) End comment. Fin.
LITTLE MAN BULLSHIT: PRETENDING HE EVER TRUSTED ANYONE
Newsweek reports, “Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed Thursday what he says is his country’s gravest error in the past 15 years — placing Moscow’s trust in the West. During a policy talk at the Valdai Discussion Club, the Russian leader spoke on a number of issues, especially criticizing U.S. foreign policy moves across the globe and lauding Russia’s increasingly relevant role as a world power.” As if Putin ever trusted anyone, let alone the West as all relationships in Putin’s mind are about power. When every country on earth is as poor and shitty as Russia is, then there will be peace on earth. Putin’s ability to trust others is right up there with Stalin’s.
ROSNEFT WILLING TO DISCUSS CITGO COLLATERAL SWAP
Reuters reports, “Russian oil major Rosneft will consider proposals to replace a stake in U.S.-based refiner Citgo it holds as collateral for a 2016 loan to Venezuela with another asset, CEO Igor Sechin said on Thursday.” According to Sechin, “Rosneft had no plans to use the Citgo stake in any way other than collateral.”
SENATE INVESTIGATORS WANT TO TALK WITH GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS
BuzzFeed reports, “Sen. Richard Burr, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told BuzzFeed News on Thursday that former Trump adviser George Papadopoulos ‘is definitely a person of interest’ because of his role on Trump’s foreign policy team. Sen. Mark Warner, the committee’s vice chairman, said Thursday evening he agreed with Burr that Papadopoulos ‘is a person of interest,’ adding that they ‘hope to have the opportunity to interview him.’”

THE MARXIST STRATEGIES OF RUSSIA AND TRUMP
Famous nudger and spouse to former UN Ambassador Samantha Power Cass Sunstein writes in Bloomberg, “Karl Marx and his followers argued that revolutionaries should disrupt capitalist societies by ‘heightening the contradictions.’” Disrupt, contraditions. Sound familiar? It should. “Russia used a version of that Marxist idea in its efforts to disrupt the 2016 presidential campaign. It should come as no surprise that the most powerful nation from the former Soviet Union, whose leaders were schooled in the Marxist tradition, is borrowing directly from that tradition in its efforts today.” Of course “President Donald Trump is drawn to a similar strategy.” Sunstein adds, “Marx contended that as the conditions of workers started to improve, they would cease to be content with their lot, or to regard their alienation as inevitable. Lenin seized on this idea and transformed it into a revolutionary strategy. Lenin urged that as capitalism developed, workers would see, or could be made to see, the contradictions between the official story of universal freedom and their actual inability to have real control over their own lives. The job of the communist revolutionary was to ‘heighten’ or ‘accelerate’ those contradictions.” Sound familiar? It should. As Sunstein notes, “In short, the Russians tried to foster a sense of grievance and humiliation on all sides.” Sound familiar? It should.
THE LATEST BULLSHIT PUMPING THROUGH CONSERVATIVE MEDIA
Vox reports, “On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump sent a series of tweets about the Russia scandal, attempting to put forth a counternarrative in which Democrats and the FBI are the real villains.” This is also a line actively pushed by the #AltRussia crowd that includes Julian Assange and Mike Cernovich, as well is in Russian state-run media. It also of course fits with Trump’s over-arcing strategy, insofar as there is one, of constantly flipping the narrative. Vox notes, “many conservative media figures and GOP politicians have increasingly tried to publicize other Russia-related matters that they say implicate Trump’s political enemies — whether the Obama administration, the Clintons, Mueller, fired FBI Director James Comey, or even the FBI as a whole — in misconduct of some kind.”

ITALIAN STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE LESSONS IN COUNTERING PROPAGANDA
The New York Times reports, “After reading the horrors in Dante’s ‘Inferno,’ Italian students will soon turn to the dangers of the digital age. While juggling math assignments, they’ll also tackle work sheets prepared by reporters from the national broadcaster RAI. And separate from the weekly hour of religion, they will receive a list of what amounts to a new set of Ten Commandments. Among them: Thou shalt not share unverified news; thou shall ask for sources and evidence; thou shall remember that the internet and social networks can be manipulated.” According to The New York Times, “The lessons are part of an extraordinary experiment by the Italian government, in cooperation with leading digital companies including Facebook, to train a generation of students steeped in social media how to recognize fake news and conspiracy theories online.” Remember, they survived Silvio Berlusconi without descending much beyond the bunga bunga layer of “Inferno,” somewhere in “Purgatorio”.
