DENY + LIE: TRUMP’S DEAFENING SILENCE ON STORMY

Because America must live on in our hearts, porn stars will always take precedent! CNN reports, “President Donald Trump continues to deny he had an affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels, White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah said Monday.” The Washington Post reports, “President Trump exercised uncharacteristic public restraint Monday following an interview on CBS’s ‘60 Minutes’ in which adult film star Stormy Daniels described, in vivid detail, a consensual sexual encounter with Trump — a relationship the president has repeatedly denied. But privately, the president has lobbed sharp attacks at Daniels and her media tour, calling her allegations a ‘hoax’ and asking confidants if the episode is hurting his poll numbers. The president even has griped to several people that Daniels is not the type of woman he finds attractive.” Bullshit. The New York Times adds, “CBS’s ‘60 Minutes’ interview on Sunday night featuring the pornographic film actress, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, garnered the highest ratings for the program in almost a decade. It drew 22 million viewers,” the highest ratings in a decade since “Steve Kroft’s interview with Barack and Michelle Obama after the 2008 election, which had more than 25 million viewers”. At the very least, you know Trump is jealous of those numbers.

STORMY SUES TRUMP’S PERSONAL LAWYER FOR DEFAMATION

The New York Times reports, “Stormy Daniels ramped up her legal battle against President Trump on Monday, alleging in court that his personal attorney Michael Cohen defamed her by insinuating that she lied about an affair with Trump more than a decade ago. Daniels amended her existing lawsuit against Trump, adding Cohen as a defendant in the pending case. The expansion of the lawsuit in a California federal court comes one day after the adult-film actress’s widely watched interview on ‘60 Minutes.’” The New York Times adds, “Besides accusing Cohen of defamation, the amended complaint broadens Daniels’s contention that the confidentiality agreement was illegal because it lacked Trump’s signature. The new complaint says the payment violated federal laws that impose limits on campaign donations and require those donations to be publicly reported.”

TRUMP CAN’T GET HIMSELF A GOOD LAWYER NO MORE

Business Insider reports, “President Donald Trump has reportedly been turned down by a new set of attorneys as he seeks to bolster his legal-defense team in the Russia investigation. The lawyers, Tom Buchanan and Dan Webb, of the law firm Winston & Strawn declined Trump’s invitation, citing ‘business conflicts,’ multiple news outlets reported on Monday night.” Webb represents Dmytro Firtash in his case in federal court in Chicago.

EUROPE UNITED + RUSSIA ACTUALLY FACES CONSEQUENCE UNDER TRUMP

POLITICO reports, “The Trump administration is expelling 60 Russian diplomatic officials it says are spies to punish a nerve agent attack in the United Kingdom that has been widely attributed to Moscow.” Totally shocking given that Trump is nothing if not a subservient little bitch of the Russian president, or as POLITICO more diplomatically notes, “The dramatic move continues a two-faced U.S. policy toward Russia — further escalating official diplomatic tensions even as President Donald Trump continues a friendly approach toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.” POLITICO recalls how “In a phone call with Putin last week, Trump personally congratulated the Russian leader on his reelection but did not mention the attempted murder of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter with a banned nerve agent in the U.K. earlier this month.” The move to expel Russian “diplomats” also includes “the shuttering of Russia’s consulate in Seattle”. The New York Times notes the move was done in sync with allies as, “Poland, Italy, Denmark, France and Germany were among 14 European Union member nations announcing plans to expel Russians from their countries in solidarity with Britain, which previously expelled 23 Russian diplomats after the poisoning. Canada also said it would expel four.” Additionally, “The American expulsion order, announced by administration officials, includes 12 people identified as Russian intelligence officers who have been stationed at the United Nations in New York, and also closes the Russian consulate in Seattle. The Russians and their families have seven days to leave the United States,” The New York Times notes. CNN notes, “The Russian embassy in Washington asked its Twitter followers to vote for which US consulate they’d like to see shuttered Monday, after the Trump administration announced it would close down the Russian consulate in Seattle and expel 60 alleged spies throughout the country. In the poll, they offer the three US consulate locations in Russia as options: St. Petersburg, Vladivostok and Yekaterinburg.” CNBC adds, “Less than 30 miles from the Russian consulate in Seattle, which was closed by President Donald Trump on Monday, is what is believed to be the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons in the United States. And it is guarded by dolphins.” CNN has a full list of numbers and countries involved.

ISRAEL’S DEFENSE MINISTER SAID BOLTON TRIED TO GET US ALL KILLED

The Jerusalem Post reports, “Former defense minister Shaul Mofaz said that John Bolton, US President Donald Trump’s newly-appointed national security adviser, tried to convince him to attack Iran.” There is a really dumb idea! The Jerusalem Post adds, “Speaking on Sunday at a conference hosted by Yediot Aharonot, Mofaz said: ‘I have known John Bolton since his days as US ambassador to the United Nations. He tried to convince me that Israel must attack in Iran.’” Keep in mind Yediot Aharonot is actually a super conservative Israeli paper as you read, “‘I don’t think that it’s a wise move, not for the Americans today or for anyone until the threat becomes real,’ he added.” The Jerusalem Post notes, “Mofaz became the 16th IDF chief of staff in 1998 and served until 2002. He was then appointed defense minister, a position he held until 2006.” The Jerusalem Post adds, “Sitting alongside Mofaz at the conference were former defense minister Moshe Ya’alon and former IDF chiefs of staff Benny Gantz and Dan Halutz. All four said they were against scrapping the Iran nuclear deal.” So now at least an end game is shaping up for this batshit illegitimate Trump administration: crazy, nihilistic holy war.

GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATING FARABOOK DATA PRACTICES

CNN reports, “The U.S. government is officially investigating Facebook. The Federal Trade Commission confirmed in a statement Monday that it is currently investigating Facebook data practices as the company faces new scrutiny from the Cambridge Analytica scandal.” POLITICO adds, “The Senate Judiciary Committee, the Federal Trade Commission and attorneys general from 37 states and territories were among the parties advancing or confirming probes into Facebook on Monday.” POLITICO notes, “Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) officially invited Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg along with Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to a hearing on data privacy on April 10.” Additionally, “The top cops from 34 states, plus two territories and Washington, D.C., moved their own inquiries forward Monday in a joint letter to Zuckerberg,” POLITICO adds.

COMPLAINTS FILED WITH FEC AGAINST CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA
USA Today
reports, “The London-based firm at the center of the Facebook voter harvesting controversy may have violated U.S. law by using foreigners to work on U.S. elections”. USA Today adds, “Common Cause filed complaints asking the Federal Election Commission and the Department of Justice to investigate whether Cambridge Analytica and its sister firm, SCL Group Limited, broke rules that bar foreign nationals from participating ‘directly or indirectly’ in the ‘decision-making process’ of a political campaign.” Oh the irony that this is what was behind “America First” and massive xenophobic messaging.

TUMBLR DELETES RUSSIAN TROLL ACCOUNTS

BBC News reports, “Blogging platform Tumblr has deleted 84 accounts it says Russian propagandists used to spread disinformation during the 2016 US election. The accounts are believed to have been used by Russia’s Internet Research Agency (IRA) – an organisation linked to many different web-based campaigns.” The BBC notes, “Tumblr said it would also let anyone who had interacted with the fake accounts know what had happened.”

PRINCELING JARED, HOOK, LINE + SINKER

The New York Times Magazine turns briefly to princeling Jared in an extended of Defense Secretary James Mattis, “Jared Kushner embodied the strangeness of this new power structure. He had developed relationships with leading figures in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries, and he seemed to be shaping foreign policy via his son-in-law status with Trump. Yet he had no relevant expertise and no formal position; his security clearance remained on hold.” For background for the job, “Kushner had only his father’s real estate empire, and it was becoming clear that his inexperience made him ripe for manipulation by people at the receiving end of United States foreign policy. This breakdown burst into view with the Qatar crisis.” The New York Times Magazine recalls, “On June 5, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates announced an economic embargo and blockade of Qatar, their tiny neighbor. The pretext was that Qatar was funding and hosting terrorists, but the feud was much wider and went back decades. For the Pentagon, this was a rude shock — and not just because the whole premise of Mattis’s effort to push back against Iran presumed unity among America’s Persian Gulf allies. Qatar is host to al-Udeid Air Base, the United States military’s largest command center in the Middle East and the launch point for the ongoing war against ISIS and other extremist groups in the region. The blockade threatened to complicate those operations. In the early days of the blockade, diplomats sent back reports that the Saudis and Emiratis might even be planning a military takeover of Qatar, a far more destabilizing possibility.” While “In the first week of the crisis, Mattis spoke by phone with the United States ambassador in Qatar, Dana Shell Smith, multiple times, she told me. She did not receive any calls from Tillerson,” The New York Times Magazine notes, adding, “For months, the leaders of Saudi Arabia and the Emirates had been befriending and cajoling Kushner, who had no background in the Arab world, through several meetings and frequent WhatsApp conversations. Kushner was soon bragging about his closeness to Arab leaders to other foreign dignitaries in Washington. He happily adopted the Saudi-Emirati perspective on the Qatar crisis, apparently believing that they would be supportive of his future efforts to broker a peace deal in Israel.” Eventually, “he Saudis and Emiratis felt they had a hold on Trump — and his son-in-law — and could safely treat the secretary of state as irrelevant.”

PAPADOPOULOS MET WITH PUTIN-FRIENDLY GREEK DEFENSE MINISTER

BuzzFeed reports, “European security officials say another set of meetings Papadopoulos held in Europe in the months before and after the 2016 election should alarm US investigators. That’s because the person with whom he met, Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, is known to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin — a relationship that goes beyond Greece’s traditional ties to Russia through the Eastern Orthodox Church and a growing relationship brought on by Greece’s economic collapse.” BuzzFeed adds, “‘Like much of the Greek economic and security establishment, the Ministry of Defense is considered compromised by Russian intelligence,’ said one NATO military intelligence officer”. BuzzFeed notes, “What Papadopoulos and the Greek defense minister discussed during their meetings is unknown.” BuzzFeed adds, “Papadopoulos also was not the only Trump-connected figure who met Kammenos. Over the weekend of Trump’s inauguration, Kammenos was photographed at social events talking with incoming chief of staff Reince Priebus and Trump political adviser Steve Bannon. That was in contrast to Kammenos’s visit to Washington in 2015, when President Barack Obama’s secretary of defense, Ash Carter, canceled an already scheduled meeting with him. Photographs showing Priebus and Bannon with Kammenos were distributed by the Greek Defense Ministry. How substantive those encounters — widely reported in Greece at the time — were is unclear. The Greek Defense Ministry portrayed them as private meetings where Kammenos discussed Greek foreign policy goals, and photos of Kammenos and Priebus, shot on Jan. 19 and Jan. 21, 2017, appear to show the two in intense conversation. Priebus declined to comment.

CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA RIPON SOFTWARE CREATED BY CANADIAN FIRM

Gizmodo reports, “A little-known Canadian data firm ensnared in an international investigation into alleged wrongdoing during the Brexit campaign created an election software platform marketed by Cambridge Analytica, according to a batch of internal files,” that the online outlet obtained. Gizmodo notes, “Discovered by a security researcher last week, the files confirm that AggregateIQ, a British Columbia-based data firm, developed the technology Cambridge Analytica sold to clients for millions of dollars during the 2016 US presidential election. Hundreds if not thousands of pages of code, as well as detailed notes signed by AggregateIQ staff, wholly substantiate recent reports that Cambridge Analytica software platform was not of its own creation. What’s more, the files reveal that AggregateIQ—also known as ‘AIQ’—is the developer behind campaign apps created for Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Texas Governor Greg Abbott, as well as a Ukrainian steel magnate named Serhiy Taruta, who’s head the country’s newly formed Osnova party.” Gizmodo adds, “Other files show the firm once pitched an app to Breitbart News… and are currently working for WPA Intelligence, a US-based political consultancy founded by noted Republican pollster Chris Wilson, chief of Cruz’s digital strategy in 2016.” Gizmodo notes, “The files were unearthed last week by Chris Vickery, research director at UpGuard, a California-based cyber risk firm. On Sunday night, after Gizmodo reached out to Jeff Silvester, co-founder of AIQ, the files were quickly taken offline.” Gizmodo adds, “AIQ is bound by an non-disclosure agreement the company signed in 2014 to take on as a client of SCL Group, Cambridge Analytica’s parent company”. As for details, “UpGuard first discovered code belonging to AIQ last Thursday on the web page of a developer named Ali Yassine who worked for SCL Group. Within the code—uploaded to the website GitHub in August 2016—are notes that show SLC had requested that code be turned over by AIQ’s lead developer, Koji Hamid Pourseyed.” Legally, there could be very severe ramifications for the Brexit campaign’s Leave.EU campaign.

DEPORTING VETERANS IS A THING THAT IS HAPPENING NOW

The New York Times reports, “A United States Army veteran who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan was deported to Mexico after his application for citizenship was denied because of a felony drug conviction, his lawyer and immigration officials said. Miguel Perez-Montes, 39, was flown on Friday from Gary, Ind., to Brownsville, Tex., where he was escorted across the border to Mexico, Nicole Alberico, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman, said in a statement.” The New York Times adds, “Mr. Perez-Montes, who came to the United States legally when he was 8 years old, was convicted in 2010 for delivering cocaine to an undercover officer, a felony drug charge, and sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was placed into removal proceedings in 2012, while behind bars in Illinois, and had been in ICE custody since Sept. 23, 2016, Ms. Alberico said.”  The New Yrok Times notes, “Mr. Perez-Montes’s case rose to prominence after Senator Tammy Duckworth, Democrat of Illinois and an Iraq war veteran, appealed to the Department of Homeland Security on Friday to stay his deportation and review his case.”

NORDSTREAM2 OR HOW TO BLOW UP EUROPEAN SECURITY

Reuters reports, “Denmark is under pressure to rule on whether a new Russian pipeline supplying gas to Germany can be built near its Baltic coast, a decision that puts it in the line of fire from friend and foe alike. Denmark does not want to act alone in resolving one of the biggest foreign policy quandaries that the small European Union nation has faced since the Cold War.” Reuters notes, “The Danish government is facing fierce lobbying by Russia, EU allies and the United States over the 9.5 billion euro ($11.7 billion) Nord Stream 2 project championed by President Vladimir Putin and financed by five Western firms.” Reuters adds, “There is no definite timing for a decision, which had been expected this spring but has been delayed while Denmark considers the security implications. But officials say it cannot be postponed indefinitely. A Danish veto, under new legislation allowing it to do so on security grounds, would force Russia, which supplies about one third of Europe’s gas needs, to find a new route for the pipeline.”

FULL TRUMPISTAN: NATIONAL ENQUIRER GETS 100 PAGE GLOSSY ON MBS

The Daily Beast reports, “A nearly 100-page magazine published by Donald Trump’s allies at American Media Inc. is providing a different kind of celebrity gossip than the American supermarket shopper is used to seeing. It’s selling America on a fellow Trump ally, Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.” If only Ivanka were the “editor,” this might be over the top full Trumpistan instead of merely full Trumpistan. Obviously you should all go to the supermarket and secure a copy because there are 100 pages of pure covfefe waiting in the checkout aisle with your name on it! The Daily Beast adds, “Greeting Americans on newsstands is a high-quality glossy advertisement for MBS, The New Kingdom. It retails for $13.99, has no ads and its 200,000 copies can be found in venues ranging from U.S. airports to WalMart, Safeway and Kroger’s—raising questions about the magazine’s financing and its origins. The Saudis say they don’t know how it came to be. AMI, which publishes The National Enquirer, insists it had no outside editorial or financial assistance, from the Trump administration or otherwise.” It appears to even contain a “Cities of the Future” which recalls a certain “Baku: City of the Future” propaganda video put forth a number of years ago by the Azerbaijani government. Things that are not mentioned: patriarchic society where women require guardians for most all legal and socio-cultural norms, the high number of executions, the “sweeping crackdown on corruption resulting in the arrest of some of the country’s most powerful figures,” has been rebranded as such, omitting, “the part where they had to sign over shares in their companies, their properties and even cash to get out of their gilded hotel-prison”. And naturally, “There are five pictures of Trump,” which of course includes “that orb photo,” just like a real –stan would have a baseline.

#METOO TOUCHES DOWN IN THE DUMA

Meduza reports, “By Friday evening on March 23, more than 30 Russian news outlets had announced that they are boycotting the State Duma, in response to the Ethics Committee’s decision on Wednesday to exonerate deputy Leonid Slutsky, who’s been accused by multiple journalists of sexual harassment. So far, not a single state-owned or state-financed media outlet has joined the boycottMeduza spoke to correspondents from several government publications to learn their thoughts about the movement. Some of these individuals say they’ve also encountered harassment while reporting at the Russian parliament. None of these journalists wanted Meduza to publish their names, and two even refused to let us specify where they work, fearing problems with their editors and threats from those who have harassed them.” Let it begin! Open the floodgates! The first chapter in the airing of grievance presented by Meduza begins, “Once they sent me to some meeting with deputies at the State Duma, and I was terribly late,” and it ends, “Looking at my chest and smiling like some vile cartoon villain, he said that I was a very pretty girl, and he would be happy to continue the conversation alone in his office.” Her editor’s response? “Oh, dear. You’re off to a good start. A lot of people have gone through this. The only thing I can do is recommend a good therapist. I’ve been going for many years. But I can’t stop sending you on these assignments. Nobody likes them.” Meduza quotes a male journalist at Russian state-run Tass, “On the other hand, the way Slutsky has behaved and the way the whole LDPR faction has behaved since the allegations — it’s not even disgusting, but something worse. It’s something beneath any moral standards.” A male employee at Rossiya Segodnya told Meduza, “They wear the expensive suits and blow their noses into handkerchiefs bearing their initials, but sometimes under the suit there’s just a hillbilly with a caveman’s views.”

LATVIA COMMEMMORATES MASS DEPORTATIONS OF 1949 TO SIBERIA

The Baltic Times reports, “Several hundred people, including the Latvian top state officials, participated in the commemorative event for the victims of the Communist genocide in Latvia on Sunday in Riga. There was the traditional commemorative procession to the Freedom Monument in the Riga center followed by the flower-laying ceremony.” Sunday marked “69 years since the second-stage of Soviet mass deportations which took place on March 25, 1949. Historians call the 1949 deportations to Siberia one of the most tragic days in the modern history of Latvia. From March 25 to March 29, 1949, about 43,000 innocent people were deported to Siberia, including some 10,000 children, as well as young people, mothers with infants, old and sick, even dying people. Many of the deportees died on their way to the exile destination, others spent long and difficult years in the northern regions of Russia, fighting for their and their children’s survival in inhumane conditions. Those, who managed to return back home after years of exile, had strongly suffered morally and physically and had lost their property. Furthermore, the Soviet regime treated them with suspicion, making it difficult to obtain a relevant education and even to choose profession and place of residence.”
